Comment: Food allergy is usually mediated by IgE antibody. The primary target organs for food allergic reactions are the skin (atopic dermatitis and urticaria), the gastrointestinal tract and the respiratory system (allergic rhinitis and asthma). The gastrointestinal tract symptoms may be manifested by different manifestation and can mislead the caring physician. Most common allergic food symptoms: abdominal cramps, flatulence, diarrhea (which can be severe and persistence), severe reflux symptoms, postprandial abdominal pain, vomiting and early satiety. Patients with birch-pollen hay fever may have symptoms of oral allergy syndrome after ingesting hazelnut, apple, carrot and celery, whereas patients with IgE sensitivity to ragweed pollen may react to melons (e.g., watermelon or cantaloupe) and banana. Interestingly, patients are usually able to ingest cooked forms of the foods without symptoms because the responsible allergens are destroyed in the heating process

Comment: Allergic rhinitis, hay fever and asthma condition can be due to several allergens. They may include outdoor and indoor allergens. Garden and farm allergens are also common source for allergy. Grass pollen is the most frequent cause
of hay fever but other types are also important including pollen from trees such as alder, hazel, birch and horse chestnut, and from weeds including plantains, mugwort and docks. A person suffering from hay fever may be allergic to one, several or many types of pollen. The relative importance of the kinds of pollen that can cause hay fever varies between different climatic and vegetation zones. For example in Scandinavia , Birch pollen is very prolific and is the most important type whereas in parts of southern Spain Olive pollen ranks as the main cause of hay fever. In Britain about 90 % of hay fever sufferers are allergic to grass pollen and about 25 % are allergic to birch pollen
