Comment: Used in the diagnosis of disease caused by Chlamydia. The Chlamydia trachomatis direct test uses fluorescein-conjugated monoclonal antibodies to detect elementary bodies in clinical smears. This test detects only Chlamydia trachomatis major outer membrane protein; the test dose not distinguish between living and dead organisms. Therefore, the test does not necessarily serve as a test -of- cure
