Comment: Mycoplasma pneumonia is a cause of “primary atypical pneumonia” the Mycoplasma is more difficult to culture than the ordinary bacteria and thus serologic confirmation of the diagnosis is often desirable. A fourfold or greater rise in titer occurs in about 80% of cases. Serologic tests for antibody to M. pneumonia are more specific and more sensitive than the cold agglutinin titer. Demonstration of specific IgG and IgM antibody by immunofluorescent is rapid, sensitive, and specific. IgM antibody indicates acute infection
