(Mycoplasma (IgG/IgM

Normal range: Negative

Comment: Mycoplasma pneumonia is a cause of “primary atypical pneumonia” the Mycoplasma is more difficult to culture than the ordinary bacteria and thus serologic confirmation of the diagnosis is often desirable. A fourfold or greater rise in titer occurs in about 80% of cases. Serologic tests for antibody to M. pneumonia are more specific and more sensitive than the cold agglutinin titer. Demonstration of specific IgG and IgM antibody by immunofluorescent is rapid, sensitive, and specific. IgM antibody indicates acute infection

ESR and C- reactive protein are often abnormal

Sample: serum

Mycobacterium Tuberculosis

Antibody against A60 complex antigen IgG & IgM are useful markers for active T.B. These markers are normal even with previous T.B infections or BCG vaccines. And raised with active infections Both IgG, IgM

Sample: Serum

(Mycobacterium tuberculosis (by PCR

Normal range: Negative

Comment: Identification by microscopy (AFB stain) has a relatively low sensitivity. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is a rapid, specific and sensitive diagnostic tool, which proved to be useful in the detection of TB in a variety of clinical specimens

Sample: Sputum, Bronchial wash. Urine at early morning

(Mumps (G/M

Normal range: Negative

Comment: Support for the diagnosis of mumps virus infection; document previous exposure to mumps virus or mumps vaccination; detection of mumps specific IgM is useful for the diagnosis of acute disease

Sample: serum

(Mucopolysaccharide (Screening test

Normal range: Negative

Comment:Mucopolysaccharides (glycosaminoglycans) are complex molecules which contain repeating disaccharide units. Excessive excretion occurs in the heritable disorders of connective tissue known as mucopolysaccharidosis such as Hurler’s disease

Sample: Spot urine

Microalbuminuria

Normal range: Up to 20 mg /24 hrs

Comment: Diabetic patients are prone to insidious renal damage. Sensitive methods for the measurement of urinary albumin can detect small amounts of protein which are not picked up by dipstick tests, thus permitting treatment prior to the development of over nephropathy

Sample: 24 hr urine

MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) Each antibiotic

Normal range: Minimal inhibitory concentration reported in mg/mL of anti microbial agent. Results maybe qualitatively reported as susceptible (S), intermediate (I), and resistant (R) if interpretive standards are available

Comment: Determine minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of a given organism to an anti microbial agent

Sample: A pure culture of the isolated organism to be tested, prepared by the laboratory

(Mucopolysaccharide (Screening test

Normal range: Negative

Comment:Mucopolysaccharides (glycosaminoglycans) are complex molecules which contain repeating disaccharide units. Excessive excretion occurs in the heritable disorders of connective tissue known as mucopolysaccharidosis such as Hurler’s disease

Sample: Spot urine
