Comment: Hepatitis E serology provides help in evaluation of the etiology hepatitis in travelers who do not have hepatitis A, B, C, or other common causes of elevation of transaminase. Hepatitis E causes an acute, self-limited hepatitis similar to hepatitis A. this virus is also transmitted fecal-orally, predominantly in the Indian subcontinent, Mexico, the Middle East, and Southeast and central Asia. The usual vehicle is contaminated water. Food and personal contact have also been implicated. Although most hepatitis E occurs in sporadic cases, it has been known to cause epidermics in topical regions. During early hepatitis E infection, IgM antibody can be detected beginning 1-4 weeks after exposure. IgG antibodies follow soon afterwards
